Try Not Making these 10 mundane mistakes in your SEO strategy

These days most website owners and administrators prefer using SEO as their chief traffic generating strategy. This strategy allows you to optimize Google, Bing, and other search engines so they bring in thousands of visitors every day without having to spend a single penny.

To cash-out on this strategy you create a plan and start hunting for keyword; your plan includes finding those specific key words that bring immense amounts of traffic to your niche. You set-up your content strategy and punch in these keywords, expecting your website’s ranking to sky rocket overnight. You realize that your keyword optimization strategy is bringing your ranking up, only it’s not at the same pace as expected.
Now you’ve got to go back and plan out a new strategy, or you leave your page to rank at its own pace. DON’T Worry!!! These are common mistake amongst several newbies in the SEO industry, and SEO is an on-going learning process. Applying a little extra effort into your SEO strategy will definitely show you some serious results.
Here are 10 of the most common errors overlooked by SEO strategists new to the field. Mending your strategy is similar to applying disinfectant to open wounds; it helps heal injuries faster. Likewise applying these 10 “Disinfectants” to your SEO strategy will help your site make it to the front page of most search engines.

1. Lacking in Local Search Optimization
A website for a small scale localized business doesn’t require global success. The important factor when applying your strategy is to keep the target audience in mind, if your audience is situated in a specific city or state then you must use a local search strategy.
Include keywords along with the specified cities or locations within the page titles as well as meta-description. A second ideal addition is to add an address and local number on all your pages; this way you are likely to show up within the local results. Another profitable plan is to enlist your site on Yelp, Google Places, and other locally based review networks. These few steps should help improve your local SEO strategy.

2. No Unique Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
Page title are often shared across social media platforms, simply having your company name for each and every single page on your website ends up greatly damaging your ranking in any major search engine. When different pages with the same title are shared across a social media platform the audience begins to ignore links that have the same name, whether the page is different from the one they came across earlier. Keeping your titles unique and descriptive is empirical; it’s okay to carry the company name across all pages, but add details relative to that page within the title. Try not making the title toooo long. Instead use the meta-description for this task.
The short explanation within search results for each site is known as the meta-description; they are 160 character sale pitches for each individual page. Since this is your sales pitch, you want each page to have a unique and persuasive narrative that will persuade people to click on your entry; also remember to include appropriate key words within each meta-description.

3. Not anchoring internal links
Having a call to action on your page is all well and good, creating internal links entirely upon nonspecific call to action text such as “click here” will bring you clicks, but the search engine crawler will likely disregard these generic links. For this reason it is important to anchor links onto text within the content of the site. One such example can be linking the phrase “Tricking the crawler” with a blog about how to gain better page rank on the Google’s search engine. You can also alter generic call to action texts by adding page specific keywords to it; for example “Click here and learn how to rank your page on google”.

4. Similar anchor texts
Now that you’ve figured out how to properly anchor links into your content, or customizing call to action text for your site’s benefit; it’s time to discuss repetition. Being creative with text anchoring doesn’t mean you take one creative idea that comes to mind, and apply it across every page on your website. Make sure you don’t use duplicate link text too often; Google’s crawler will think you are taking it for granted, and your audience will tire of seeing the same text and link for one page across the entire website. Sometimes even placing the whole URL isn’t such a bad idea; or simply rephrasing the anchored text will put, both google and your audience, in a less monotonous and boring environment.

5. Poorly written content
This is really the worst investment you can make. First of all remove all those crappy article spinning software from your PC, and instead invest your money in professional writers. Most writers can give you articles that are not too far off from the article spinning software; these articles may be well optimized with all the right key words in all the correct locations, but they will not stand out to your audience. Once the readers realize you’re not giving them unique trust worthy content to read, you’ll lose their trust which in turn will make you lose potential buyers. Professional writers may cost you more, but they are bound to bring in more conversion, and at the end it will be a better over-all investment.

6. Optimizing for the wrong keywords
What keywords you use reflect greatly on how the search engine will rank your site. Using generic keywords might bring a lot of traffic to your website, but the customers may not be interested in your product, or it may bring in visitors who aren’t interested in buying anything at all. Most of the generic keywords relative to your niche may also be highly competitive keywords, which other SEO experts may be using to rank their pages.
For better results you want to focus on more specified keywords instead of generic ones; as mentioned above, for any local result optimization using the city or state may bring a greater number of prospective customers. Similarly using long-tail keywords with specific tasks, or products within your content will generate better page rank.

7. Failing to use analytics to determine what converts
Getting high quantity traffic from your generic keywords is great, you can bask in the glory of how many hits your pages and website as a whole is receiving; but keep in mind that if you are getting a high number of visitors, but you are making very few conversions (sales) then your SEO strategy is not going according to plan. Making conversions is the real deal behind the job of an SEO expert. In order to determine whether you are making any conversions it is empirical to use any analytics tool.
You can set up Google analytics, for instance, to track the number of conversions you make based on specific keywords; this way you can determine exactly what keywords are bringing you conversions and plan your next strategy accordingly.

8. Not focusing on Quality link building
Off-site link building is just as important as your on-site link strategy. Most SEO try to increase the number of back links coming onto their site; they believe the greater the places your links are available the greater the amount of traffic that comes across your website. And this is true; but we have to scrutinize the term “traffic”. Quantity based link building will get you traffic, but it will lack the capacity to convert.
That is why I give importance to quality link building over quantity. Having fewer back links to websites that offer truly unique advice, similar to yours, will go a step further in bringing potential buyers to your site instead of high uninterested visitors. Make sure the blogs from which you are receiving back links are related to your industry/niche, also make sure the blog doesn’t have too many back links to other- not so good- blogs, and finally make sure they aren’t directing visitors towards vulgar websites.

9. Falling short of commendable content for link building
As I mentioned earlier, quality content is what will attract your customers. Badly written content with the right keywords will only bring traffic, and the visitors will soon realize you have nothing worthwhile to tell them and they will go away. In this same manner, other blogs that are willing to link to your articles will only do so if they feel your content is worthy of linking themselves to you. In order to increase the number of back links your website has you must give the audience and other bloggers information they may not receive elsewhere; quality based unique content. The greater the number of back links you have the more visitors your website will convert into customers.

10. Disregarding your aesthetic design for quality off-page linking
If you’ve spent a good amount of time making your website look good, aesthetically or content wise, you’re bound to get more visitors. As a web developer you can use your website as a marketing tool for what your skills are capable off. In this same way you can use the aesthetic beauty of your website on several design galleries that will link to your website, and that to for the simple reason that you have a great design. This strategy may not bring you a high level of conversion but it will go miles in building quality links; these links will bring visitors, of which many may yet become buyers for your product.

The fall of Guest Blogging for SEO

In 2014, when new and effective SEO practices are emerging, there is no doubt in saying that guest blogging to gain links for SEO has become a very outdated and ineffective practice. Reason: It’s become spammier and being overused.

Some years ago, it was considered a very respectable and authentic method to go write guest blogs, like an author introducing his book, but over the years, with the practice of “buying links” and other spammy methods, it has lost its charm.

The practice of offering money to gain links on popular websites and thus increasing the PageRank is in fact, a clear violation of quality guidelines of Google. We often get offers, asking us to let them write a guest post on our blog for a handsome amount of money and they, in return will put some links (mostly spam) in the blog, so as to gain the PR.

The dilemma with Search Engine Optimization is that a new practice is introduced, it seems very authentic and useful until it is overused to such an extent that hardly some traces of legitimate practice remains. We have been seeing lot of “How to automate guest blogging” and “get paid for guest blogging” articles which are alarming, not to mention violation of Google guidelines.

Considering all this, we are right in saying that guest blogging is the practice of past now. We wouldn’t recommend you to go for guest blogging as a part of your link building strategy, or allow someone to use your blog for the purpose unless you know them well as some low quality, spam website resort to such methods.

All this has lead to the decay and downfall of a SEO strategy which was pretty authentic once. Looking at the way guest blogging is turning into a spam hub, we expect the anti-spam team of Google to take an action against it soon.
